I just tried out your plugin on a few songs from my library (mostly acoustic guitar tracks) and found it do an 'interesting' job determining the chords of the song.
Some comments:
The algorithm appears a bit 'greedy' in changing chords, e.g. it seems to have issues differentiating between the vocal part of the song and the accompanyment, so it'll change chords based on the vocal track. Do you try to eliminate the vocal track (which is usually mastered to be centered equally between the left and right channels?)
The chord accuracy is somewhat poor considering I'm using acoustic guitar accompanied tracks which is what I imagine the target use of this program lies. Granted, this is a free-for-use plugin and I'm not aware what the 'state-of-the-art' is capable of when it comes to unguided chord matching in songs.
The chords is guesses are just major and minor chords, and not any variants (7th chords, 5th chords, sus chords, chords w\/ different base notes, etc) Is this a current limitation due to the algorithm just identifying the interval of the 3rd (Maj,minor). Updates to determine the more complex chords would be fantastic for helping transcribe songs more accurately.
The timing of the MIDI-esque playback of chords seems to be quite delayed (not sure if it's my machine... 64-bit windows running latest Winamp)
I had to edit the paths.ini file to get the installer to recognize winamp, and had to make a playlist, etc, to get it to work. An integrated help\/tutorial in the plugin would be a lot easier for users who want to get started using this.
All-in-all, quite an impressive effort, but definitely needs some improvement in chord determination, timing of playback with the song, and some user interface tweaks.
If these kinks\/improvements could be made and the accuracy of the program were to increase, I'd be first in line to buy it.
